Hormone therapy for men is often used to address conditions related to testosterone levels. Testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) is a common form of hormone therapy for men with low testosterone levels, known as hypogonadism.
Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) helps treat symptoms of menopause like vaginal dryness and hot flashes. Your age, family medical history, personal medical history and severity of your symptoms are factors that may affect your decision to take hormone therapy. Talk with your healthcare provider about the benefits and risks of HRT, the different forms of HRT and alternative options
As you transition to menopause, your ovaries stop making high levels of estrogen. This can cause uncomfortable symptoms like:

This condition is commonly referred to as “Andropause” and less often as “Androgen Deficiency in the Aging Male” (ADAM).
A man may be considered hypogonadal at any age if total testosterone is less than 200 ng/dl, or bioavailable testosterone is less than 60 ng/dl. Basaria and Dobs of Johns Hopkins University recommend that elderly men with symptoms of hypogonadism and a total testosterone level < 300 ng/dl should be started on hormone replacement.
It’s important to note that hormone therapy should always be supervised by a healthcare provider, as it can have side effects and risks, especially if not monitored properly. Additionally, hormone therapy is not recommended for men with normal testosterone levels, as it can lead to adverse effects.
